The Sargent Welch Scientific Company of Skokie, Illinois has been producing (for a very long time) those great old science charts that many of you may remember from the school rooms of your past.

This Guinea Pig (captioned in Latin) comes from a strikingly beautiful black & white chart entitled "Genetics," which documents all of the things that can happen re the offspring when a "Rough Black" Guinea Pig does what comes naturally with a "Smooth White."

I bought this shirt for my cousin who lluurrvveess guinea pigs.. She loved the shirt to death (literally) wearing it constantly (to much ribbing from yours truly). Then one day I realised she hadn't worn it for ages..she said it had worn out. Worn out?! I lectured her on the quality and long life of REMO shirts until she finally admitted showering the shirt with red wine..it didn't recover. Now it's on her Christmas List!

I have a long sleeve version of this and still wear it on special occasions. People always find it rather appropriate as they say I must have been the byproduct of a genetic mutation.

aaaah ~ de cavia cobaya ~ small ~ stout-bodied ~ short-eared ~ almost tailess ~ friends ~ or ~ "rats in drag" ~ as an uncle used to ~ call them ~ but ~ good friends ~ nevertheless ~ remember them ~ well ~ especially long ago ~ when on hols ~ at the beach ~ but ~ never just black ~ never just white ~ always ~ black&white&orange ~ clearly local mutants ~ but ~ can genetics ~ really do ~ a black+white=orange? ~ cuisenaire ~ sure ~ but ~ genetics? ~ on reflection ~ clearly ~ one has to love those ~ recessives :) ~ now ~ cobaya ~ remind me of ~ 'basil' ~ faulty's nemesis ~ the siberian hampster ~ so ~ my uncle ~ so prescient ~ almost got it right! ~ bless him ~ miss him too ~ :(
