2009 MOLESKINE DIARIES HAVE ARRIVED

Welcome to a source of PERFECT notebooks!

Moleskine (pronounced mol-a-skeen-a) is a brand of bound notebooks manufactured by a small company in Milan called Modo & Modo. The range has been inspired by the legendary notebooks used by European artists and thinkers over the past two centuries: Van Gogh, Picasso, Hemingway, Wilde, Proulx, etc. These trusty, pocket-size travel companions have held sketches, notes, stories and ideas long before they were turned into famous images or the pages of beloved books.

Moleskine notebooks are bound in oilcloth-covered cardboard (Moleskin), with an elastic strap to hold them closed and a sewn spine that allows them to lie flat when opened. Each Moleskine includes an attached bookmark and a generous inside back pocket designed to hold loose bits of paper.

The quality is high. The design is clean. They feel good in your hand. Very easy to fall in love with.

Global user enthusiasm for the Moleskine range is legend ... and infectious e.g. at moleskinerie.com, a blog moderated by a big fan in Illinois (Hi Armand!), the amount of love shown for the product is awe-inspiring. Moleskine is indeed a "Lovemark" ... currently ranked #6 (REMO = #16) on the Saatchi & Saatchi sponsored global Lovemarks list. Some great customer testimonials there.

Moleskine's most famous endorsement comes from Bruce Chatwin, who used similar notebooks constantly throughout his travels, and wrote about them glowingly. Chatwin's original source of notebooks dried up in 1986, when his Paris stationer informed him that the last moleskine manufacturer, a small family-run firm of Tours, had discontinued production in 1986 after the death of the owner. The modern moleskine is fashioned after Chatwin's descriptions of the notebooks he used.

The famous notebook has appeared in numerous Hollywood scenes in recent times e.g. in Amelie Audrey Tatou uses a pocket Moleskine to keep track of the person she is trying to find; and in Da Vinci Code Robert Langdon reads notes from a large one one while reading a speech.

But you don't have to be famous. Lots of you CustOMERs already use them .... (and, as an aside, we'd love to hear from those folk in the CustOMER Comments below).

Finally, here's the Moleskine at REMO range:

I love my day a page diary for work, my large hardcover notebook for non-fiction pontificating, my soft cover notebook for fiction and my quadernetti for jottings. I love peering into my handbag and being able to choose from at least three Moleskines!

Won't leave home again without clutching a couple, also make great gifts for friends travelling abroad....Could not have done without them last year; especially Paris and Rome - London was handy but the other two made navigation Sooooo... much easier - also, great little tabs and folders to keep addresses, dockets etc.in! When are they going to extend the range?!!! Really could have done with one in Africa!

India Flint

India Flint has given this product a 5 star rating | the indispensable moleskine
Don't leave home without one is my rule, and yep, a Lamy pen is the way to go for me too...plus the ubiquitous 2B pencil and an artline faxblack marker or two...as a dye researcher I frequently find myself sandwiching snippets of wet plant-dyed fabric between the pages, which then react to the kaolin surfacing agent and make rather nice prints...and when in doubt for birthday presents, a Moleskine always solves the problem nicely!

Have exclusively used these for my travel diaries ever since I discovered them. Very functional with the pocket at the back and the elastic strap. I loved the limited edition ranges they released a while ago - one with different textures and the other in vibrant coloured satins.

Lorraine Leung

Lorraine Leung has given this product a 5 star rating | The perfect 'lazy' diary
I've been using a pocket- sized day-to-a-page Moleskine notebook as a diary for a few years. It gives me just the right amount of space to record my insightful thoughts and witty comments (or more often it's just moaning about a terrible day or recording what I had for lunch). Most importantly, the pocket-sized pages don't ever make me feel pressured to write huge meaningful essays about the day. Even a single sentence can look good on these gorgeous pages!

Alastair Smith

Alastair Smith has given this product a 5 star rating | Pocketbook replaces wallet
The small, lined notebook is a fantastic product and since discovering these notebooks a few years back, I've never been without one. The little wallet at the back will hold a credit card or two, and I've given up carrying my fat wallet in favour of the notebook and one carefully selected bit of plastic. Can even use it to write things in. Only one fault that I know of - all of my little black notebooks look the same: in an ideal world there'd be some way of writing clearly and indelibly on the outside, abrasion-resistant for carrying in the back pocket . . . a DIY gold-blocking kit, Remo?

Yvonne Frindle

Yvonne Frindle has given this product a 5 star rating | Moleskine - eccellente!
This is fantastic news - a great product and a great price (the mark-up on Moleskines in some Sydney stores is outrageous). To Moleskine novices I'd point out a couple of caveats: * The paper in the notebooks is fine (in the most beautiful Italian way), which means that users of fountain pens will be disappointed unless they want to miss every other page, as there is a lot of bleed-through. Pencil and ballpoint work fine; extra-fine fountain pens with lighter coloured inks (e.g. green) are ok - just. The best pen for Moleskine notebooks that I've found after 5 years of experimenting is the Pigma Micron. This is an acid-free art pen, and it comes in the most wonderful range of colours. Available in art shops, but perhaps it could be added to the Remo range? * The paper in the sketch books is rather stiff (almost like light card) and - very important - it is heavily sized and therefore resistant to wet media. So not ideal for watercolours or pen and wash (or even certain ink pens) unless you're willing to prepare each page by very lightly sponging it first. (Just itching to see one of the new watercolour Moleskines...!) On the other hand, very nice for detailed pencil sketches. Nonetheless, the Moleskines are fabulous notebooks. Bravo Remo for adding them to the range!!!

Kris Fegent has given this product a 5 star rating | Yay!!!
I'm very glad that Remo will now be stocking one of my 'must have at all times' stationery items. I carry one of the blank notebooks with me everywhere I go, and my mother treasures the Moleskine Sketchbooks that I buy for her when she goes away on holidays. They are the perfect size for quick sketching and fit easily into your daypack.

I'm SO HAPPY! Grab a Moleskine and your favorite fountain pen or other writing instrument and writing and doodling and drawing is an enjoyable experience. I have to have at least one Moleskine with me all the time. Thank you for making them available at Remo.

Louise Box has given this product a 5 star rating | At last!
I have been a BIG fan of these for years. Actually co-incidentally I have recommended them to two friends in the last 48 hours...(one in the last 2 hours) so very timely that REMO now stocks them and I can refer to REMO rather than the moleskine website. Yay! A great product: the elastic and sturdy binding holds the book in good condition in handbags and backpacks, the pocket is useful, and the sketchbook paper survives fountain pen ink etc. Buy more than one!

Chris Kuan

Chris Kuan has given this product a 4 star rating | Nice but...
The weekly planner is great - if you really only plan one week at a time. The lack of a partial calendar on the weekly pages makes it a bit tricky to use for those of us who (unfortunately?) live more regimented lives. It makes it hard to visualise (much less plan for) dates a month or more away.

The perfect little black address book I've been searching for. Simple, sized not too small, and not too big, classic, good hand feel, straightforward blank lines for all sorts of info per entry. Thanks for another excellent item.

Judith Fordham

Judith Fordham has given this product a 4 star rating | Oh Oh Oh!
I have been using my "ordinary" Moleskine Notebooks for just this purpose - my own little set of City Notes focussed on my interests (NO not just shoes). I have resorted to all sorts of weird indexing methods to divide sections. My books are just about worn out. Now I just wish Moleskine could transfer all my info into these new books legibly, as I sure can't. why only 4 stars? because my Moleskine diary wore out before June and I am worried these will too.

I love the features of the Week to a page diary. The snappy elastic band to hold it closed and the clever little address section at the back. I also think the first page is quaintly humerous. My only gripe is the size. I would love an A4 sized desktop version, do they make them this size?
